UK prices for the 2020 Hyundai i10

Prices and specifications have been confirmed for the third-generation i10, which arrives at dealers next month.

Interestingly – and perhaps surprisingly – the entry-level ‘S’ trim grade that was offered on the previous generation of Hyundai’s city car no longer exists. Therefore, the cheapest 2020 i10 is a £12,495 ‘SE’ model.

Such a move upmarket is arguably a risky strategy, as particularly cost-conscious drivers might now look elsewhere. A Kia Picanto, for instance, can be bought currently for just £10,045.

At least the i10 ‘SE’ is fairly well-equipped. Indeed, it comes with air conditioning, four electric windows, Bluetooth, a DAB radio, cruise control and tyre pressure monitoring.

What’s really impressive is the standard suite of safety technologies. This includes lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, autonomous emergency braking and automatic emergency calling.

The mid-level ‘SE Connect’ has several items that many people may deem to be essential. Among them are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a central 8” touchscreen, a reversing camera and 15” alloy wheels instead of 14” steel rims.

By contrast, a lot of the extra features fitted to the range-topping ‘Premium’ variant are probably unnecessary. How many customers in this market segment want or need 16” alloy wheels, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel or privacy glass, for example?

But if even more kit is required, then ‘Premium’ purchasers are able to order a £1,000 Tech Pack (comprising satellite navigation, Bluelink telematics, wireless device charging and speed limit warning). Also opting for a contrasting roof finish (£500) and metallic paint (£550) would mean a total invoice amount of £17,545 is possible.

Two petrol engines are available. A 1.0 litre, three-cylinder unit produces 66 bhp (49 kW / 67 PS) and 96 Nm (70 lb/ft) of peak torque, while the 1.2 litre, four-cylinder alternative promises better performance with 82 bhp (61 kW / 84 PS) and 118 Nm (87 lb/ft). Both can be mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission.

On-the-road starting prices for the 2020 Hyundai i10 are:
  • SE 1.0 MPi Manual – £12,495
  • SE Connect 1.0 MPi Manual – £13,495
  • SE Connect 1.0 MPi AMT – £13,995
