Škoda’s Kodiaq joins the ambulance service
Eighteen examples of a specially-modified Škoda Kodiaq have been delivered to South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, which covers approximately 10,000 square miles of England.
On the outside, the all-wheel drive vehicles gain a reflective ‘battenburg’ livery and a roof-mounted light bar, but otherwise their appearance is unremarkable. Conversely, the interiors have received some very unusual alterations.
They start on the dashboard, where the regular 9.2” infotainment touchscreen now resides directly in front of the passenger. Replacing it in the central position is a much larger display that’s used to show details about emergency call-outs.
This Kodiaq ambulance conversion is intended to carry lots of equipment, rather than a patient on a stretcher. Accordingly, an enlarged bulkhead-protected load space encroaches on the area ordinarily occupied by the second-row bench, resulting in a 2+1 seating layout. Importantly, the finished product complies with infection control standards, plus there’s a built-in combination safe for storing controlled drugs.
