2020 European Car of the Year winner named
A jury comprising 58 motoring journalists from across the continent has decided that the Peugeot 208 is 2020’s European Car of the Year.
With each panel member having 25 points to allocate between the seven finalists, the victorious 208 ended up with an overall share of 19.4%. Two electric-only models – the Tesla Model 3 and Porsche Taycan – occupied the other podium positions.
The voting results by nation reveal some interesting anomalies. For instance, the six representatives from France actually put the Renault Clio in first spot ahead of the Peugeot. The former secured 42 (28.0%) of their 150 available marks, while the latter received 36 (24.0%).
By contrast, the six UK delegates favoured the Porsche, to which they gave a combined score of 38 (25.3%). In fact, they placed the Peugeot a fairly distant fourth behind the Tesla and Ford Puma.
