2021 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV and SSV unveiled

Two new versions of the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV are aimed exclusively at law enforcement agencies.

The Police Pursuit Vehicle and the Special Service Vehicle both feature a 5.3 litre V8 engine, a ten-speed automatic transmission and the Z71 exterior appearance package. They also gain modified front seats (with additional hip room), keyless entry, an upgraded alternator and a large-capacity auxiliary battery. Furthermore, the wiring loom has been redesigned to make the installation of extra electrical equipment a relatively straightforward task.

As its name suggests, the PPV is intended for high-speed work. Consequently, an enhanced specification includes 20” steel wheels, bespoke Firestone Firehawk Pursuit tyres, a limited-slip rear differential, better powertrain cooling and 16” front brake discs with Brembo six-piston aluminium monoblock calipers.

In addition, a completely revamped suspension set-up lowers the ride height, sharpens the handling and improves stability. Either two- or four-wheel drive can be ordered for the PPV.

Alternatively, the SSV focusses on off-road and towing capabilities. Therefore, four-wheel drive and the Max Trailering Package are standard. The latter incorporates a two-speed electronic Autotrac transfer case, as well as an integrated trailer brake controller.

Chevrolet is planning to begin Tahoe PPV and Tahoe SSV production towards the end of this year. The first deliveries should then take place in early 2021.
