Citroën e-Jumpy and Peugeot e-Expert revealed

Last month, Vauxhall / Opel unveiled the production-ready Vivaro-e pure-electric van. Now, the virtually identical Citroën e-Jumpy (e-Dispatch in some markets) and Peugeot e-Expert are all set to go on sale as well.

Unsurprisingly, their technical specifications aren’t any different to those of the Vivaro-e, so they feature an electric motor that provides 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS) plus 260 Nm (191 lb/ft) of peak torque in ‘Power’ mode.

Performance should be satisfactory. The 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 13.1 seconds, for example, and the 50-75 mph (80-120 km/h) increment is completed in 12.1 seconds. Top speed is always limited to 81 mph (130 km/h).

Customers will be able to choose either a 50 kWh or a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is mounted beneath the floor to maintain cargo space. Ranges according to the WLTP cycle are 143 miles (230 kilometres) for the former and 205 miles (330 kilometres) for the latter.

If energy consumption needs to be decreased, then a lower output setting can be activated. ‘Normal’ restricts the motor to 107 bhp (80 kW / 108 PS) with 210 Nm (154 lb/ft), while ‘Eco’ further reduces those figures to 80 bhp (60 kW / 81 PS) and 190 Nm (140 lb/ft).

Recharging times depend on the method used, and whether or not the standard on-board 7.4 kW single-phase charger has been upgraded to an optional 11.0 kW three-phase item.

The e-Jumpy / e-Dispatch and e-Expert are going to be offered with body lengths of 4.61 m (15’ 1”), 4.96 m (16’ 3”) or 5.30 m (17’ 5”). Maximum payload varies, but it can be up to 1,275 kg (2,810 lbs). Towing capacity is 1,000 kg (2,204 lbs).

Of course pricing – as yet unknown – is bound to be a crucial factor in determining how many operators are prepared to switch from diesel to electric. Expect purchase costs and equipment levels to play key roles in deciding the relative popularity of the Citroën, Peugeot and Vauxhall / Opel models, too.
