Updated 2020 SsangYong Tivoli launched

Among the myriad B-segment SUVs that are currently on sale, the SsangYong Tivoli has to be one of the most overlooked. Whether or not a mid-life facelift will raise its profile by much remains to be seen.

For 2020, revised front- and rear-end styling is combined with changes to the interior and a refreshed engine line-up.

New are a pair of GDi-T turbocharged petrol units. A 1.2 litre, three-cylinder version delivers 126 bhp (94 kW / 128 PS) plus 230 Nm (169 lb/ft) of peak torque, while the larger 1.5 litre, four-cylinder alternative boasts 160 bhp (120 kW / 163 PS) and 280 Nm (206 lb/ft).

They join an improved 1.6 litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel which now produces 134 bhp (100 kW / 136 PS) with up to 324 Nm (238 lb/ft).

Equipment on the entry-level EX trim grade is fairly basic, but air conditioning, four electric windows, a DAB radio, Bluetooth and cruise control are all standard.

Included as well is a comprehensive safety suite comprising Front Vehicle Start Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Safety Distance Alert, Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Breaking and Emergency Stop System.

Moving up to the mid-level Ventura adds some useful items. Among them are automatic lights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, a heated leather-covered steering wheel and heated front seats. The cabin gains cloth and faux-leather upholstery, and the 16” wheels are upgraded from steel to alloy.

Also fitted is SsangYong’s Screen Smart Audio System. Based around a centrally-mounted colour touchscreen, it’s compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Completing the line-up is the Ultimate. Recognisable by a set of diamond-cut 18” alloys, this variant features full leather, dual-zone air conditioning and power-folding door mirrors. Another highlight is a customisable 10.25” LED display that takes the place of conventional instruments.
