Bentley launches the 2021 Bentayga Speed

According to Bentley, demand for twelve-cylinder power isn’t strong in Europe. Consequently, the new Bentayga Speed – which boasts a twin-turbocharged 6.0 litre W12 petrol engine – won’t be offered there. In fact, supply is being restricted to the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East and the USA.

Prospective customers in those places can look forward to some impressive performance. Thanks to 626 bhp (467 kW / 635 PS) plus 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes just 3.9 seconds. The big SUV’s top speed is 190 mph (306 km/h).

As well as a balanced ‘Bentley’ mode, there’s a choice of ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Custom’ settings for the Drive Dynamics controller. They alter various parameters, including throttle response, shift patterns for the eight-speed automatic transmission, and behaviour of the Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system.

The Speed version is recognisable by its 22” wheels, unique bumpers, larger tailgate spoiler and oval exhaust tips. As standard, the interior features two-tone leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrast stitching and diamond-quilted sections.

For an even more distinctive look, the optional Black Specification is available. This package uses carbon fibre for the front splitter, side sills and rear spoiler, while all of the exterior components that are usually chromed become gloss black instead. The wheels receive a similar finish, too.
