2021 NACTOY semi-finalists

Due to obvious reasons, many automotive product launches have been delayed this year. Consequently, organisers of the 2021 North American Car of the Year, Utility Vehicle of the Year and Truck of the Year decided to accept more entries after the initial eligibility lists were published.

Such a sensible approach was good news for the Cadillac CT4 / CT4-V, Kia K5, Polestar 2, Ford Bronco Sport, Kia Sorento and Ram 1500 TRX. None of them originally featured but, following an initial vote by fifty jurors from across Canada and the United States, all have been selected as semi-finalists in their respective categories.

Conversely, not a single BMW Group model earned enough support to proceed to the next round. Its four Car of the Year casualties were the BMW 330e / 330e xDrive, BMW 430i / 430i xDrive / M440i xDrive, BMW 545e xDrive and Mini Cooper SE. Meanwhile, the BMW X2 xDrive25e and BMW X3 xDrive30e / X3 xDrive45e became Utility Vehicle of the Year rejects.

A comparison drive event is scheduled for later this month. Then, a second ballot will take place, ahead of the top three finalists for each prize being announced in December 2020. The winners are going to be declared in January 2021.
