Nissan has created the Re-Leaf concept

For its latest concept, Nissan has imagined what a pure-electric disaster response vehicle might look like. The result is named Re-Leaf (a clever play on the word ‘relief’).

Based on a regular Nissan Leaf e+ Tekna, various modifications should make driving on damaged roads less of a challenge. The ride height has been raised by 70 mm (2.7”), for instance, and the tracks are wider than usual.

Furthermore, 17” Compomotive five-spoke wheels shod with BF Goodrich Baja all-terrain tyres sit beneath bespoke arch extensions. A bash plate, mud flaps, some body graphics and a roof-mounted amber LED light bar complete the exterior transformation.

Inside, the rear seats have been removed and a mesh bulkhead is fitted to separate the cargo area. Opening up the hatchback reveals a pull-out desk with a built-in 32” LED display which can be used for mission management.

A key objective for the Re-Leaf would be to act as a mobile electricity supply. The Leaf’s 62 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is unchanged, but a total of three plug sockets (one internal and two weatherproof external) are able to simultaneously power multiple appliances. They might include tools, lighting, medical equipment or water filtration devices.
