2021 Transporter T6.1 Sportline revealed

Volkswagen has added a Sportline trim grade to its Transporter line-up. Available for both panel van and Kombi models in either short- or long-wheelbase guises, this new styling package also benefits from a decent level of equipment.

A red grille strip, LED headlights, a unique front bumper, gloss black 18” alloy wheels, illuminated side bars and a rear tailgate spoiler identify the Sportline. Furthermore, the ride height has been lowered by 30 mm (1.2”) to help give the Transporter a purposeful stance.

Inside, heated front seats plus Nappa leather and suede upholstery combine to create an upmarket feel. A digital cockpit and the Discover Media Navigation system are fitted as standard, while the list of driver aids includes a heated windscreen, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and adaptive cruise control.

If that’s not enough specification, then customers can opt for the Sportline Black Edition instead. Eibach coilover suspension, dark-tinted rear windows (on the Kombi), matt black side bars, a different wheel finish and Discover Media Pro Navigation are among the extra enhancements.

Every Sportline and Sportline Black Edition will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers 204 PS (201 bhp / 150 kW) via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Consequently, performance matches the sporty looks, as evidenced by a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 8.9 seconds. The 126 mph (202 km/h) top speed is very respectable, too.

Volkswagen dealers are due to begin accepting orders later this month, ahead of the first deliveries in July.

UK starting prices (excluding VAT and on-the-road costs) are:
  • Sportline panel van SWB – £42,940
  • Sportline panel van LWB – £43,795
  • Sportline Black Edition panel van SWB – £45,140
  • Sportline Kombi SWB – £46,450
  • Sportline Kombi LWB – £47,305
