Suzuki has unveiled an updated version of its Burgman 400 scooter, which is due to arrive at dealers in the summer.

Many of the changes were necessary to ensure compliance with Euro 5 emissions standards. Consequently, the 400 cc engine gains a new twin-plug cylinder head, modified fuel injectors, revised ignition timing, altered cam profiles and a second catalytic converter.

Peak output and torque are now rated at 29.2 PS (28.8 bhp / 21.5 kW) and 35.2 Nm (25.9 lb-ft) respectively, while 70.6 mpg (4.0 l/100km) is possible according to the WMTC measure.

Other enhancements include the addition of traction control and Suzuki’s Easy Start System. The instruments have been refreshed, too.

Customers will have a choice of Metallic Matt Black, Solid Iron Grey or Metallic Matt Sword Silver paintwork. All three options come with contrasting blue wheels.

Despite a fairly hefty kerb mass of 218 kg (480 lb), a low 755 mm (29.7”) seat height and narrowed footboards should mean that most riders can handle the 2021 Burgman 400 easily enough.

UK prices have yet to be announced.
