Audi Sport begins testing the new RS Q e-tron

Audi is getting ready to enter the Dakar Rally for the first time in 2022. Its contender for the gruelling two-week event is the RS Q e-tron, which is now undergoing initial testing.

Uniquely, this all-new vehicle features an electrified range-extender powertrain.

A TFSI petrol engine, together with a modified motor-generator unit (MGU) from the Audi e-tron FE07 Formula E car, are used to recharge a 50 kWh battery pack.

Two more MGUs – one for each axle – provide the final drive.

The 2022 Dakar Rally is scheduled to take place next January, entirely within Saudi Arabia.
