Mercedes-Benz has begun testing the eEconic

Another battery-electric truck will soon be joining the Mercedes-Benz range. The new eEconic – which is currently undergoing testing ahead of customer trials – should enter production during the second half of 2022.

Built on a 6x2 chassis with a gross vehicle weight of 27 tonnes (59,525 pounds), most of its powertrain components are shared with the recently-launched eActros.

They include the single ‘e-axle’ that incorporates two centrally-positioned liquid-cooled electric motors and a two-speed transmission. Continuous and peak outputs are rated at 450 PS (443 bhp / 330 kW) and 545 PS (537 bhp / 400 kW) respectively.

Similarly, the three 105 kWh battery packs are taken from the eActros. An anticipated range figure hasn’t been quoted yet, but driving distance might actually be a secondary consideration for the vehicle’s target market.

Indeed, Mercedes-Benz is aiming the eEconic at municipal operators, in particular those involved in providing refuse collection services. Arguably, such low-speed, stop-start urban work is well-suited to electrification, especially given the relatively short routes involved.

Aston Martin Racing has announced that it’ll be entering a V8 Vantage in the GTE Pro category of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship. Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE. Honda Racing’s all-new Civic NGTC race cars were first seen at a Brands Hatch test session last month. Then they were painted plain white, but now the colour scheme that will be worn in this year’s British Touring Car Championship has been revealed. As expected, the design is predominantly white with red and black stripes. A deal with Yuasa has also been confirmed, which will see the battery manufacturer becoming the renamed Honda Yuasa Racing Team’s title sponsor for the next three years.
