2022 Toyota Corolla Commercial van unveiled

Toyota has turned its Corolla Touring Sports estate car into a compact van.

The conversion involves removing the rear seats and replacing them with a flat floor. A full-height mesh bulkhead is fitted to protect the front-seat occupants, plus all the glazing rearwards of the B-pillars gets a very dark tint.

Power comes from a non-plug-in hybrid set-up which combines a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor, a continuously-variable automatic transmission and a lithium-ion battery pack. Total system output is 122 PS (120 bhp / 90 kW), with 142 Nm (104 lb-ft) of peak torque.

Prospective customers will need to be patient, though. That’s because Corolla Commercial deliveries aren’t due to begin until summer 2022.
