2023 Ford Ranger pick-up first view

Ford has unveiled a heavily-revised version of its Ranger T6 mid-size pick-up. This updated model – which is due to arrive at dealers across Europe in early 2023 – will also form the basis of the next-generation Volkswagen Amarok.

The most noticeable visual changes are at the front end, where C-shaped headlights flank a restyled grille that incorporates a prominent crossbar motif. Widened wheel arches help to improve the vehicle’s stance.

There are some significant modifications beneath the skin, too. For instance, the wheelbase is 50 mm (2.0”) longer (achieved by pushing the front axle forwards), and the tracks are 50 mm (2.0”) wider. In addition, the rear dampers have been moved outboard of the chassis rails to enhance the ride quality.

Moving to the rear, new integrated side steps make access to the load space much easier. The cargo box benefits from the extra breadth (a full-size pallet can now be carried) and the number of tie-down points is increased. A tough plastic-moulded bedliner aids practicality, plus the tailgate is designed to double as a mobile work bench.

An amended powertrain line-up is set to include a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel for the first time. Alternatively, customers might want to choose the familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel unit with either one or two turbochargers.

As well as rear-wheel drive, a couple of four-wheel drive transmissions have been developed. The first is an electronic shift-on-the-fly system, while the second is full-time.

Inside the cab, premium materials are used to create a more car-like ambience. The dashboard gains a fully-digital instrument display, the latest Sync 4 infotainment system, and either a 10.1” or 12.0” vertically-aligned touchscreen. Among the other available features are wireless device charging and a 360° external camera array.

Ford is planning to manufacture the 2023 Ranger in South Africa and Thailand. A similarly-overhauled Ranger for North America has yet to be announced, though.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo supermini is now available with the innovative two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine. Although its capacity is only 875 cc, a turbocharger and the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve control system mean it produces a respectable 83 bhp (62 kW / 85 PS) and 145 Nm (103 lb/ft) of torque. Performance might not be scintillating - the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 12.5 seconds and maximum speed is 108 mph (173 km/h) - but the TwinAir’s trump card is efficiency. Carbon dioxide emissions are only 98 g/km, a level that brings numerous benefits for UK drivers including zero road tax, a full discount on the London Congestion Charge and qualification for the lowest company car benefit-in-kind rate. Fuel economy is also decent and, according to the official figures, a TwinAir-powered MiTo will manage 67.3 mpg (4.2 l/100km) on the combined cycle. Aston Martin Racing has announced that it’ll be entering a V8 Vantage in the GTE Pro category of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship. Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE. The plan is to contest all eight rounds of the WEC, which commences with the 12 Hours of Sebring on the 17th of March. For the third race - June’s Le Mans 24 Hours - a second Vantage is going to be run, but its drivers have yet to be named. In preparation for the season’s premier event the team also intends to compete in the Long Beach and Laguna Seca rounds of the American Le Mans Series. 2012 Civic NGTC livery

Honda Racing’s all-new Civic NGTC race cars were first seen at a Brands Hatch test session last month. Then they were painted plain white, but now the colour scheme that will be worn in this year’s British Touring Car Championship has been revealed. As expected, the design is predominantly white with red and black stripes. A deal with Yuasa has also been confirmed, which will see the battery manufacturer becoming the renamed Honda Yuasa Racing Team’s title sponsor for the next three years.
