Suzuki introduces the 2022 S-Cross

A new version of Suzuki’s compact crossover will be available from next January. To coincide with the launch, its name has been changed from SX4 S-Cross to just S-Cross.

The 2022 S-Cross is based on the same platform as the previous model, and much of the body structure is carried over. However, the front and rear end styling has been totally refreshed, and the interior is claimed to be more spacious than before.

A straightforward line-up comprises two trim grades named Motion and Ultra.

As standard, every S-Cross comes with LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, 17” alloy wheels and aluminium roof rails.

Inside, there’s dual-zone air conditioning, heated front seats, a 4.2” colour LCD information display and a 7” infotainment touchscreen. A comprehensive suite of assistance technologies features adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention and weaving alert.

Moving up to the Ultra brings several items of extra equipment, including a sliding panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery. In addition, this variant benefits from a 360° camera array, satellite navigation and a larger 9” infotainment screen.

The sole powertrain being offered combines a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The former produces 129 PS (127 bhp / 95 kW) plus 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of peak torque, while the latter’s belt-driven integrated starter motor contributes 13 PS (13 bhp / 10 kW) and 53 Nm (39 lb-ft).

That output can be delivered via either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The Motion is front-wheel drive, but the Ultra gets four-mode Allgrip ‘Select’ four-wheel drive instead.
