DS E-Tense Performance prototype unveiled

DS Performance – the motorsport division of DS Automobiles – has created the E-Tense Performance to help develop future technologies for electric vehicles.

Built around a carbon fibre monocoque, this two-door prototype features long and low proportions which are emphasised by a set of 21” wheels.

Most of the all-electric powertrain’s components are taken straight from Formula E. Separate motors for the front and rear axles produce 340 PS (335 bhp / 250 kW) and 475 PS (469 bhp / 350 kW) respectively, giving a combined output of 815 PS (804 bhp / 600 kW). Peak torque meanwhile is an astonishing 8,000 Nm (5,900 lb-ft).

Another key element is the regenerative braking system. Indeed, thanks to a capacity of up to 600 kW, it’s used for all retardation. Traditional brake discs and pads are fitted as well, but they’re merely a back-up system for safety purposes.

DS is due to commence an E-Tense Performance testing programme later this month. That should establish exactly how quick and efficient the car actually is.

Aston Martin Vantage GTE

Aston Martin Racing has announced that it’ll be entering a V8 Vantage in the GTE Pro category of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship. Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE. The plan is to contest all eight rounds of the WEC, which commences with the 12 Hours of Sebring on the 17th of March. For the third race - June’s Le Mans 24 Hours - a second Vantage is going to be run, but its drivers have yet to be named. 2012 Civic NGTC livery

Honda Racing’s all-new Civic NGTC race cars were first seen at a Brands Hatch test session last month. Then they were painted plain white, but now the colour scheme that will be worn in this year’s British Touring Car Championship has been revealed. As expected, the design is predominantly white with red and black stripes. A deal with Yuasa has also been confirmed, which will see the battery manufacturer becoming the renamed Honda Yuasa Racing Team’s title sponsor for the next three years.
