Caterham Seven Superlight Twenty launched

In 1996, Caterham introduced the original Seven Superlight. Now, to celebrate the model's upcoming twentieth birthday, a special edition has been created.

Unsurprisingly called the Superlight Twenty, it's equally at home on a circuit or public roads thanks to an ultra-minimalist, weight-saving ethos. Evidence of that are bare aluminium body panels (paint adds an unnecessary 6 kg / 13 lbs), an aero screen, carbon fibre wings and a carbon fibre nose cone.

Also fitted are carbon fibre seats taken from the Seven 620 R, a limited-slip differential, a lightweight flywheel and the Sport suspension upgrade. Unique features include redesigned gauges and a numbered dashboard plaque.

Power comes from a 1.6 litre Ford Sigma engine that's mated to a six-speed transmission. With 135 bhp (100 kW / 137 PS), the 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint takes 4.9 seconds. Top speed is 122 mph (196 km/h).

Fittingly, just twenty examples are going to be built. Already available to order, the Superlight Twenty is priced at £29,995.
