2015 Mercedes-Benz Vito 4x4 introduced

Buyers of the recently-launched Mercedes-Benz Vito mid-size van can now opt for a permanent four-wheel drive transmission.

The set-up directs torque via a central differential to the front and rear axles on a 45% / 55% basis. One of its key components is the 4ETS Electronic Traction System, which can brake wheels individually whenever they lose grip.

For the time being, the Vito 4x4 is being offered with the usual choice of body styles, but only in 119 BlueTEC guise. That means power is provided by a 187 bhp (140 kW / 190 PS) 2.1 litre, four-cylinder, AdBlue-equipped diesel engine mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Lower-output 114 CDI and 116 CDI versions are due to follow over the next few months.

UK availability has yet to be confirmed, but dealers in Germany are already accepting orders for the Vito 4x4. There, prices start from €36,120 excluding tax.
