Ford Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid first view

As part of a strategy to include more electrified vehicles in its range, Ford will begin deliveries of the eight-seat Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid towards the end of this year.

The powertrain – which is also going to be offered in the cargo-carrying Transit Custom – sees the front wheels permanently driven by an electric motor / generator unit. Energy is stored in an under-floor, liquid-cooled, 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, while a 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine ‘range extender’ and variable regenerative braking provide charge when travelling.

Of course, a stationary Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid can be topped up via the front bumper’s charging port as well. The full process takes five and a half hours using an ordinary 240 volt / 10 amp domestic socket, but that time reduces to three hours if a commercial 240 volt / 16 or 32 amp supply is available.

Official efficiency figures have yet to be published. However, Ford’s target distance for the zero-emission, pure-electric ‘EV Now’ driving mode is 31 miles (50 kilometres).

Aston Martin Racing has announced that it’ll be entering a V8 Vantage in the GTE Pro category of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship. Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE. Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.
