All-new 2020 Isuzu D-Max unveiled
Isuzu has introduced a completely revised D-Max pick-up. Like its predecessor, the 2020 model will be built in Thailand and customers can choose standard, space or crew cabs.
As part of an ‘Efficient and Robust’ engineering approach, high-tensile steel is used for many of the body panels. Consequently, rigidity is up by 20%, the roof is stronger than before and anti-corrosion protection is enhanced. Ride, handling and braking performance are also claimed to be better, plus manoeuvrability has improved thanks to a revised steering set-up.
The styling incorporates a bold two-tier grille flanked by bi-LED headlamps. A prominent swage line runs along the sides, while the rear features LED light clusters, a sculptured tailgate and an access step which is integrated into the bumper.
Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a central 7” or 9” touchscreen for an infotainment system that’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible. Other available technologies include keyless entry and start, automatic lights and wipers, voice recognition, dual-zone air conditioning, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.
148 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) 1.9 litre and 187 bhp (140 kW / 190 PS) 3.0 litre turbocharged diesel engines are being offered, but their allocations by market haven’t been confirmed yet. The D-Max can be specified with either rear-wheel drive or a part-time 4x4 transmission.
Deliveries in Thailand begin later this month. However, trim grades, prices and an on-sale date for the UK are still to be announced.
