2021 Lexus LC revealed

Apart from some redesigned 20” forged alloy wheels and a refreshed range of paint and upholstery colours, the 2021 Lexus LC looks identical to its predecessor. However, beneath the skin, there are several significant changes.

Many of them concern the chassis. For instance, recalibrated front dampers and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar should mean that ride comfort is better than before. Furthermore, unsprung weight has been reduced by around 10 kg (22 lbs), because various suspension components are now made from aluminium.

Improved handling comes courtesy of Active Cornering Assist. This new addition to the standard equipment list sharpens the car’s dynamics by applying a braking force to the inner wheels when going through a bend. The Electric Power Steering, Variable Gear Ratio Steering and Dynamic Rear Steering have all been tweaked too.

A 464 bhp (346 kW / 470 PS) 5.0 litre V8 mated to a ten-speed automatic gearbox still powers the LC 500 variant. The only modification is an altered shift pattern, which is intended to enhance the driving experience.

Alternatively, the hybrid LC 500h continues to feature a 3.5 litre V6 Atkinson-cycle engine, two electric motors / generators and a lithium-ion battery. As previously, a combined 354 bhp (264 kW / 359 PS) is delivered via both a continuously-variable transmission and a four-speed automatic gearbox. Updates to the down-shifting function are claimed to provide smoother changes and stronger acceleration, though.

Lexus will announce UK prices for the 2021 LC next month. At the moment, the plan is to begin customer deliveries this coming July.

  1. Lexus has now confirmed UK prices for the 2021 LC and LC Convertible.

Surprisingly, the latter won't be available with the 500h hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.5 litre V6 engine, two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. Therefore the new drop-top version can only be ordered with a 5.0 litre V8.
