Renault launches the electric Zoe Van
At first glance, the new Zoe Van looks exactly the same as its passenger-carrying counterpart. However, after looking closely, an opaque film covering the rear windows will become evident.
Inside, removing the rear seats has created a load space which is 1,205 mm (47.4”) long with a maximum width of 1,110 mm (43.7”). The floor is completely flat, while a full-height mesh bulkhead protects front-seat occupants from any stray cargo. Payloads of up to 387 kg (853 lbs) can be accommodated.
Renault is offering two trim grades. The first, called Business, comes with 15” steel wheels, LED headlights, manual air conditioning, cruise control and a 10” TFT instrument display. Also part of the specification is an Easy Link infotainment system that combines a 7” screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Alternatively, the better-equipped Business+ gains 16” alloy wheels, power-folding door mirrors, climate control, satellite navigation and wireless device charging. Standard driver aids on this variant include rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition.
The Zoe Van features an R110 electric motor that produces 107 bhp (80 kW / 108 PS) plus 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of peak torque. Consequently performance should be adequate, as indicated by a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 11.4 seconds. The top speed is just 84 mph (135 km/h), though.
A 52 kWh battery pack is large enough to provide the Business with an impressive WLTP range of 245 miles (395 kilometres). That drops slightly to 239 miles (385 kilometres) for the Business+, and the ‘Winter’ figure for both versions is 150 miles (242 kilometres).
Recharging takes 9 hours 25 minutes via a 7 kW wallbox, or 3 hours when using a 22 kW supply. Many operators are therefore likely to avail of the optional 50 kW DC rapid charging upgrade, as it can replenish the battery to 80 percent capacity in a much more practical 70 minutes.
