A stock BMW R 18 becomes the R 18 Dragster

To highlight how its new R 18 cruiser can be customised, BMW Motorrad asked Roland Sands to create a one-off bike. The result is the R 18 Dragster.

The front end gains the fork from an BMW R nineT, as well as upgraded brakes from the BMW S 1000 RR. The really radical changes are at the rear, though. There, removal of the suspension and modifications to the sub-frame have produced a ‘hardtail’ set-up.

Additions to the 1,802 cc twin-cylinder boxer engine include a revised air intake, a nitrous oxide kit and a hand-made stainless steel dual exhaust system. Unfortunately, effects on output are unknown, and BMW hasn’t indicated what sort of quarter-mile times could be achieved.

Among the other special components are some unique drop handlebars, a bespoke saddle and ‘2-Tone-Black’ milled aluminium wheels. Blue paintwork with white pinstripes completes the transformation.
