Ford Ranger Tremor launched in the USA
Ford has introduced the Tremor off-road package for its 2021 Ranger mid-size pick-up.
Available for XLT and Lariat variants with a SuperCrew cab and four-wheel drive, this upgrade is intended to improve rough-terrain ability without harming day-to-day usability.
If the optional body graphics aren’t applied, then a set of 17” wheels and some 32” Continental General Grabber A/TX tyres are perhaps the most obvious changes. Look more closely though, and the increased ride height might become noticeable.
That’s due in part to a bespoke chassis set-up which comprises recalibrated front coilovers and rear leaf springs, as well as Fox 2.0 monotube dampers and less stiff anti-roll bars.
Consequently, suspension travel is up to 16.5 cm (6.5”) at the front and 20.5 cm (8.1”) at the rear, while ground clearance rises by 2.0 cm (0.8”) to 24.6 cm (9.7”). The Tremor’s approach, break-over and departure angles are 30.9°, 24.2° and 25.5° respectively.
Also included are an electronic locking rear differential, the Terrain Management System, Trail Control and a modified traction control system. A unique grille design, a steel bash plate, underside skid plates, hoop-style steps and additional rear recovery hooks are all fitted, too.
Inside, the seats gain Miko suede inserts and embroidered backrests. Mounted on top of the dashboard is a bank of six spare auxiliary switches that can be connected to various aftermarket accessories.
Ordering the Tremor specification will add $4,290 to a Ranger’s invoice amount. Production is expected to begin early next year.
