Interbrand’s most valuable auto brands of 2020
Rather optimistically, the latest Best Global Brands report by Interbrand is subtitled ‘A New Decade of Possibility’. On the face of it, such hopefulness might be understandable, given that the total value of the world’s top 100 brands rose by 9 percent year-on-year. However, in these extremely unsettled times, the combined result masks some dramatic ups and downs.
As can be seen from the table below, the automotive sector generally fell into the latter category. Nevertheless, when comparing the list against 2019’s, Harley-Davidson is the only absentee. Tesla is the sole new entry (or re-entry, having last appeared in 2017), thanks to significant market capitalisation growth and an expanding product line-up.
Apple reinforced its dominance of the overall rankings with a 38 percent value increase. Conversely, Google (+1 percent) dropped two places to fourth, which allowed Amazon (+60 percent) and Microsoft (+53 percent) to be ranked second and third respectively.
