Genesis confirms some GV70 specifications

With deliveries expected to begin during the early part of 2021, Genesis has revealed more details about the upcoming GV70. The brand’s first mid-size SUV measures 4,715 mm (185.6”) long, so it’s roughly the same size as direct rivals such as the BMW X3 and Lexus NX.

Three turbocharged engines will be offered initially:
  • 2.5 litre, four-cylinder petrol – 300 bhp (223 kW / 304 PS) with 421 Nm (311 lb-ft) of peak torque
  • 3.5 litre, V6 petrol – 375 bhp (280 kW / 380 PS) with 530 Nm (390 lb-ft)
  • 2.2 litre, four-cylinder diesel – 207 bhp (155 kW / 210 PS) with 441 Nm (325 lb-ft)
All come mated to an automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive with Multi Terrain Control is configurable across the board. Rear-wheel drive is the default for the 2.2 and 2.5 litre units, though. While that might look like plenty of variety, the absence of any hybrid powertrains is surprising.

The GV70 is going to be sold in regular and Sport guises. The latter is distinguished by unique 19” or 21” wheels, a dark chrome front grille, redesigned bumpers, and a rear diffuser. In addition, an e-LSD (electronic limited-slip differential) is fitted and there’s an additional Sport Plus driving mode.

Standard safety kit on all models includes Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Driver Attention Warning, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Among the other available technologies are Launch Control (which helps the 3.5 V6 variant sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.1 seconds), Preview Electronic Control Suspension (adjusts the ride and handling based on inputs from the front camera and navigation system) and Highway Driving Assist II (controls the steering during lane changes and reacts to other vehicles).

A particularly innovative device is fingerprint authentication. This can be used for several functions, for example starting the GV70 – remembering various driver-specific settings in the process – and activation of an in-car payment service called Genesis CarPay.

Genesis GV70 (2022) Rear Side

Genesis certainly deserves credit for providing a broad paintwork selection that features three red and two green shades, as well as the expected white, grey, black and blue options.

Similarly, the interior doesn’t have to be dark and dull. The list of colour schemes comprises Obsidian Black, Obsidian Black / Vanilla Beige two-tone, Ocean Waves Blue / Havana Brown two-tone, Ocean Waves Blue / Pine Grove Green two-tone, and Slate Gray / Velvet Burgundy two-tone. GV70 Sport customers are able to choose Obsidian Black, Obsidian Black / Seville Red two-tone or Ultramarine Blue, too.
