2021 NACTOY winners

This year’s North American Car of the Year, Utility Vehicle of the Year and Truck of the Year have been announced. A jury of fifty automotive journalists from across Canada and the United States chose the winners, based on segment leadership, innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for money.

2021 North American Car of the Year is the Hyundai Elantra compact sedan. The two runners-up in this category were the Genesis G80 and Nissan Sentra.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E pure-electric SUV took the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year title. It managed to beat both the Genesis GV80 and Land Rover Defender.

Ford also secured the 2021 North American Truck of the Year award, courtesy of the comprehensively-updated F-150 pick-up. Two FCA products – the Jeep Gladiator Mojave and Ram 1500 TRX – completed the trio of finalists.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo supermini is now available with the innovative two-cylinder TwinAir petrol engine. Although its capacity is only 875 cc, a turbocharger and the MultiAir electro-hydraulic valve control system mean it produces a respectable 83 bhp (62 kW / 85 PS) and 145 Nm (103 lb/ft) of torque. Performance might not be scintillating - the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes 12.5 seconds and maximum speed is 108 mph (173 km/h) - but the TwinAir’s trump card is efficiency. Honda WSB team launch

Honda has unveiled its works team for the 2011 World Superbike championship . The announcement of Castrol as title sponsor means the return to a very familiar colour scheme for the pair of CBR1000RR Fireblade bikes, which will be ridden by Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus. As in recent years, Honda has entrusted Dutch concern Ten Kate Racing with running the factory WSB team. First thing on the Castrol Honda agenda is a two day testing session at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain later this week. The 2011 WSB season comprises thirteen rounds with Phillip Island, Australia hosting the opening race on 27 February.

Moto Guzzi V7 Record kit

Inspired by the 1969 V7 Record that set several speed records for Moto Guzzi, the new Record kit has been designed to give current-generation V7 models a retro endurance racer look. Included is a lightweight fibreglass front fairing (which handily uses the existing headlight), plus a replacement single seat unit that features memory foam. The kit can be fitted to the V7 Café and V7 Racer without any modifications. It’s also suitable for the V7 Classic, V7 Special and V7 Stone, but a set of Moto Guzzi clip-on handlebars will be needed as well for those variants.
