The 2021 SsangYong Rexton gets a facelift
Four years after it was originally unveiled, the SsangYong Rexton SUV has been comprehensively updated.
On the outside, a restyled front end incorporates a larger, bolder grille and LED headlights. The rear gains revised LED light clusters too, but the somewhat awkward side view appears unchanged.
Inside, the highlight is a modified dashboard that now benefits from a 12.3” digital instrument display, plus either an 8” or a 9” HD touchscreen for the infotainment system (which is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).
Two trim grades are being offered. Equipment on the entry-level Ventura includes 18” diamond-cut alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, seven seats (power-adjustable, heated and ventilated in the front row), faux leather upholstery and dual-zone climate control.
Furthermore, Front Vehicle Start Warning, Speed Limit Warning, Safety Distance Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking and Trailer Sway Control are all on the list of standard driver aids.
Moving up to the Ultimate version adds various items such as real leather upholstery, the bigger 9” HD infotainment screen, TomTom satellite navigation, 3D 360° camera monitoring, Lane Change Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Warning.
The sole available powertrain has received attention as well.
Maximum output and torque figures for the e-XDi 220 engine have been increased to 202 PS (199 bhp / 148 kW) and 441 Nm (325 lb-ft) respectively, for instance. This 2.2 litre turbo-diesel unit is mated to a new Hyundai Transys eight-speed automatic transmission with shift-by-wire functionality.
Consequently, the four-wheel drive Rexton can complete the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in a respectable 11.9 seconds. However, 32.9 mpg (8.6 l/100km) and 225 g/km of CO2 emissions on the WLTP combined cycle suggest mediocre efficiency.
