2022 Mercedes-Benz Citan revealed
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the second-generation Citan, which is based on the latest Renault Kangoo.
Both load-carrying Panel Van and people-carrying Tourer versions are being offered with a choice of either Base or Pro trim grades. Initially, just one body length of 4,498 mm (14’ 9”) will be available, but an extended-wheelbase model is due to join the range later.
The Panel Van has a cargo volume of 2.9 m3 and there’s enough space inside for two Euro pallets. If the usual twin rear doors aren’t suitable, then a tailgate can be specified instead, along with one or two side sliding doors. Depending on the variant, maximum payload is 782 kg (1,724 lb).
To protect the cab occupants, a solid or part-glazed bulkhead is fitted. Furthermore, an optional opening steel grille on the passenger side is intended for the transportation of long items.
The five-seat Citan Tourer features as standard a split-folding second-row bench, full glazing, two side sliding doors and a tailgate (twin glazed rear doors appear on the options list).
At launch, the engine selection comprises three 1,461 cc diesel and two 1,332 cc petrol units. All have four cylinders, turbocharging and a start-stop device, plus they’re compliant with Euro 6d emissions regulations.
Their key power and torque figures are:
Output is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Alternatively, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is obtainable for the 112 CDI and 113.
In addition, the pure-electric eCitan is going to arrive during the second half of 2022. Its powertrain consists of an under-body 44 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that produces 102 PS (100 bhp / 75 kW) with 245 Nm (180 lb-ft) of instant torque.
Range according to the WLTP measure should be around 177 miles (285 kilometres). DC rapid recharging is supported, so a top-up from 10 to 80 percent capacity could be completed in about 40 minutes.
In Germany, customers can place Citan orders from next month. Prices there are expected to start below €23,800 (including VAT).
