UK police forces evaluate the Mustang Mach-E
Ford and conversion specialists Safeguard SVP have turned the all-electric Mustang Mach-E into a fully-marked police car.
The initial concept is based on a Mustang Mach-E AWD Standard Range which features twin electric motors. 269 PS (265 bhp / 198 kW) plus 580 Nm (427 lb-ft) of peak torque result in a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of just 6.3 seconds, but the 111 mph (178 km/h) top speed might be a hindrance for response or pursuit work.
With a usable battery capacity of 68 kWh, official range is ordinarily 248 miles (400 kilometres). While that figure probably suffers a bit in the transition to police specification, the lights, sirens and other extra equipment run via the 12-volt system rather than the traction battery.
88 kWh Extended Range variants with either rear- or all-wheel drive are also planned. They would offer increased outputs of 294 PS (289 bhp / 216 kW) and 351 PS (346 bhp / 258 kW) respectively, as well as the potential to travel up to 379 miles (610 kilometres) on a single charge.
So far, seven police forces across the UK have expressed an interest in evaluating the Mustang Mach-E.
