Kia Concept EV9 pure-electric SUV unveiled
Kia seems to have ticked several ‘on trend’ boxes with the Concept EV9: it’s an SUV with angular styling and a battery-electric powertrain.
This preview of an imminent production model is based on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that underpins the recently-launched Kia EV6. Measuring 4,930 mm (194.1”) long, 2,055 mm (80.9”) wide and 1,790 mm (70.5”) tall, the Concept EV9 is larger than the current Sorento across every dimension.
Few technical details have been released, but Kia anticipates a maximum driving range of around 300 miles (480 kilometres). 350 kW fast charging is going to be supported, allowing a top-up from 10 to 80 percent capacity in about half an hour.
Access to the lounge-inspired interior should be easy, courtesy of rear ‘suicide’ doors and the absence of any B pillars. Neither of those features are likely to appear on a showroom vehicle, though.
Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a 27” display which incorporates all of the instrument, infotainment and climate control functions. Instead of a conventional steering wheel, the driver is faced by a pop-up steering pad.
The Kia Concept EV9 is currently on display at the AutoMobility LA show in California.
