Nissan creates four electric concept vehicles
‘Nissan Ambition 2030’ is the brand’s proposal for a more sustainable future, which will involve the introduction of 23 new electrified models over the next nine years.
As part of the strategy, by 2026 Nissan intends to reduce its non-electrified sales mix to less than 25 percent in Europe, 45 percent in Japan and 60 percent in China.
Much of the company’s technology focus is going to be on batteries. Accordingly, cobalt-free lithium-ion cells are due to arrive by 2028, with a promise of significantly reduced costs. Quicker-charging and cheaper proprietary all-solid-state batteries (ASSB) are also planned.
To mark the start of the Ambition 2030 programme, four pure-electric concept vehicles have been created.
The first, named Nissan Chill-Out, is a crossover built on the same CMF-EV platform that already underpins the Ariya. Described as “a mobile haven”, the design provides comfort and plenty of interior space.
Looking beyond Chill-Out, the other three fall under Nissan’s ‘EV Technology Vision’ study. All members of this trio are based on a ‘skateboard’ architecture that incorporates the aforementioned ASSB for energy storage.
To explore the various packaging requirements of different body styles, they each follow a separate theme: Hang-Out is a smooth-riding SUV with a completely flat floor, Max-Out is a dynamic lightweight two-seat convertible, and Surf-Out is an all-terrain pick-up with a generous cargo capacity.
