Kia GT variants get 201 bhp

Kia is continuing its teaser campaign for the new Pro_cee’d GT and Cee’d GT, releasing some technical specs and another artist’s impression of what the high performance models might look like.

As with most manufacturers nowadays, Kia has decided to use forced induction as the method to increase output, so the 1.6 litre Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) petrol engine will be getting a twin-scroll turbocharger plus some beefed-up internals. The result is 201 bhp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 265 Nm (195 lb/ft) of torque.

Those figures are up 51 and 61 per cent respectively on the non-turbo version of the motor, which makes Kia’s target of a sub-eight second zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) time seem realistic.

With the specification set to include 18” alloy wheels, redesigned bumpers, unique grilles, LED running lights and red brake calipers, the GT versions should be fairly easy to identify. The sporty theme will also continue into the cabin, where Recaro seats and alloy pedals are going to feature.

European sales of the Pro_cee’d GT and Cee’d GT are due to begin around the middle of 2013.
