Toyota S-FR concept first view

Ahead of a public unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month, Toyota has revealed its exciting S-FR concept.

Measuring just 3,990 mm (13’ 1”) long – about the same as a Mazda MX-5 – this lightweight compact coupĂ© is being pitched at enthusiasts who are passionate about driving and enjoy customising their cars.

Like the MX-5, the S-FR adopts a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout to provide decent handling balance. There's no word yet on which engine is fitted, but the transmission is a six-speed manual.

It's still too early to say whether or not the S-FR should become a production model, simply because important factors such as performance and pricing remain unknown. Nevertheless the project (which seems to be a solo Toyota effort, rather than a collaboration with BMW) certainly has great potential.
