Porsche reveals its first Formula E car

When the 2019/2020 FIA Formula E Championship begins in November, two examples of the new Porsche 99X Electric will be on the grid.

As per the series regulations, the car is built around a standard ‘Gen2’ Formula E chassis and 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The primary engineering challenges were therefore designing the powertrain and cooling system.

Porsche apparently benefited from its experiences with the 919 Hybrid LMP1, which raced successfully in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Nevertheless, strict rules concerning output mean that power cannot exceed 268 bhp (200 kW / 272 PS) in race mode, 301 bhp (225 kW / 306 PS) in attack mode, and 335 bhp (250 kW / 340 PS) in qualifying mode or if Fanboost is activated.

Neel Jani and AndrĂ© Lotterer have already been named as the team’s two drivers.
