Impreza WRX STI S206

Subaru has announced the Impreza WRX STI S206, the latest in its ‘S’ series of special editions that promises more performance than the standard model.

Just 300 examples are going to be built and, to make things worse, the S206 will be offered in Japan only.

The internals of the Impreza’s boxer engine have been specially balanced, while the engine control unit and twin-scroll turbocharger are both bespoke. Together with a large intercooler and a low back-pressure exhaust system, the result is 315 bhp (235 kW / 320 PS) and 431 Nm (17 lb/ft) of peak torque.

Chassis upgrades include Bilstein dampers and STI springs, which are augmented by a flexible front strut tower brace to sharpen up the handling. The S206 gets exclusive silver BBS 19” wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sports 245/35ZR19 tyres, and braking is taken care of by Brembo calipers combined with drilled discs.

Identifying the S206 are its larger, lower front splitter, outlet grilles over the front wheel arches and a bootlid lip spoiler. On the inside, there’s leather and Alcantara upholstery, Recaro front seats and a plaque that displays the car’s individual build number.

For an even greater visual impact, Subaru has also developed the optional ‘NBR Challenge Package’ for the S206. This consists of an adjustable carbon fibre rear wing, black 19” BBS wheels and a carbon fibre roof panel, but it’s only being made available on a maximum 100 cars. The bad news is that they’ve all already been pre-sold.
