New Chevrolet Trailblazer

Bangkok, Thailand was the venue chosen for the unveiling of the 2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer. A fitting location, seeing as the all-new SUV will be built by GM Thailand and the country has been selected as the model’s launch market, prior to sales beginning in other territories around the world.

The Trailblazer is based on GM’s latest body-on-frame truck architecture, which essentially makes it the Chevrolet / Holden Colorado pick-up in five-door form.

Unsurprisingly, the initial engine line-up is shared with the Colorado, meaning there’s a choice of two Duramax four-cylinder turbo diesels. A 2.5 litre version develops 147 bhp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 350 Nm (258 lb/ft) of torque, and it comes with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Alternatively, the slightly larger 2.8 litre motor produces 177 bhp (132 kW / 180 PS) and a healthy 440 Nm (324 lb/ft), although that peak torque figure rises to 470 Nm (346 lb/ft) when the optional six-speed automatic transmission is specified.

Rear- and all-wheel drive variants will be available, and both include a five-link independent rear suspension that’s claimed to offer decent on-road ride and handling. Off-road capability meanwhile should be promising thanks to coil springs all-round and the fitment of hill descent control.

Full specifications have yet to be revealed, but Chevrolet has confirmed that LT and LTZ trim grades are going to be offered. The interior will feature seven seats in three rows, with the rear ones foldable to provide a completely flat load area.
