2014 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure

A year after BMW’s latest R 1200 GS was first revealed, the more extreme Adventure version has been launched.

Following a similar recipe to its predecessors, the big enduro gains a 30 litre (6.6 gallon) aluminium fuel tank for greater range, redesigned bodywork, a larger windscreen, higher ground clearance and an extra 20 mm of suspension travel. Also fitted are engine and tank protection bars, wider footrests and a modified seat.

Like the regular R 1200 GS, the Adventure is powered by a 1,170 cc boxer-twin engine that produces 123 bhp (92 kW / 125 PS) and is now cooled by water and air. There have been a couple of alterations though, with enhanced rideability over rough terrain promised thanks to an additional vibration damper and a heavier flywheel.

Standard equipment includes switchable anti-lock brakes, ASC traction control and a choice of ‘Road’ or ‘Rain’ riding modes. A semi-active electronic suspension adjustment system and three additional riding modes appear on the options list.

UK sales of the 2014 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure begin on the 15th of March next year. Prices are due to be announced at this November’s Motorcycle Live show in Birmingham.
