Bentley introduces the 2021 Bentayga Hybrid

Bentley has begun the new year by giving its recently-facelifted Bentayga SUV a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The set-up comprises a 3.0 litre V6 twin-turbocharged combustion engine and an E Motor, which together produce 449 PS (443 bhp / 330 kW) plus 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of peak torque. Consequently, the Bentayga Hybrid can accelerate from rest to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds, before going on to hit 158 mph (254 km/h).

Thanks to a 17.3 kWh 168-cell lithium-ion battery pack, maximum range in pure-electric EV Drive mode is 31 miles (50 kilometres). While that should be sufficient for most local journeys, recharging from empty to full is certainly a long process: at least two and a half hours are required.

Unfortunately, the quoted distance has been calculated using the NEDC method, rather than the more realistic WLTP procedure. It’s the same situation with the Combined Cycle economy and CO2 emissions figures of 85.6 mpg (3.3 l/100km) and 78 g/km respectively.

For the time being, the Bentayga Hybrid is only available to order in Canada, China, Puerto Rico and the USA. A UK price has yet to be announced.
