Nissan Townstar compact van unveiled
Given Nissan’s strategic links to Renault, it’s hardly surprising that the new Townstar compact van is essentially a badge-engineered version of the latest Renault Kangoo (which is also available as the Mercedes-Benz Citan).
Maximum payload is 800 kg (1,763 lb) and there’s enough cargo space inside to carry two Euro pallets. A variety of door configurations will be offered, including 60:40 split rears.
Detailed specifications have yet to be released, but the sole combustion engine is a 1.3-litre petrol unit. Output and torque are rated at 130 PS (128 bhp / 96 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) respectively.
Alternatively, the Townstar EV features a pure-electric powertrain. Its motor produces 122 PS (120 bhp / 90 kW) plus 245 Nm (180 lb-ft) of torque, while energy is stored in an under-body 44 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Although an estimated range of 177 miles (285 kilometres) isn’t spectacular, replenishment to 80 percent capacity takes a reasonable 42 minutes when using a DC rapid charging facility.
To coincide with the Townstar’s arrival, the rest of the Nissan van range has been renamed. The NV300 is once again called Primastar, and the larger NV400 is now known as the Interstar.
