Top 10: UK car sales Q3 2013

Figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that 403,136 cars were registered in the UK during September.

That was the best single month for the industry since March 2008, with increased demand from private buyers mainly responsible for the encouraging performance.

Consequently, year-to-date registrations are at 1,794,924, which is 10.8% up on the same period last year. Interestingly, petrol-powered models now account for 49.6% of the market, a share that just eclipses the 49.0% recorded by diesel cars.

As expected, there has been very little change in the top ten league table. The top six places are identical to last quarter, with the Ford Fiesta maintaining its substantial lead over the competition.
