2022 Ford Bronco Raptor unveiled

A more extreme version of the Bronco SUV will soon be available. The new 2022 Raptor – which was devised by Ford Performance – is intended to tackle rough ground at high speeds.

Accordingly, it’s powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre EcoBoost engine that’s mated to a recalibrated ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and an upgraded transfer case. Output should be at least 400 horsepower (around 300 kW).

As well as three four-wheel drive settings, the Raptor is equipped with the seven-mode GOAT (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) Terrain Management System. Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist and Trail One-Pedal Driving are among the other driver aids.

The chassis gets several bespoke modifications, too. For instance, a race-ready long-travel Fox HOSS (High Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension) set-up is fitted, along with stronger Dana AdvanTEK axles, beadlock-capable wheels and 37” BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tyres.

Consequently, the track measurement has increased from 165.1 cm to 186.9 cm (65.0” to 73.6”), plus ground clearance is up by 12.1 cm to 33.2 cm (4.8” to 13.1”).

Changes to the bodywork include a tougher steel front bumper, a unique grille design and prominent wheel arch flares. The B and C pillars gain reinforcement to improve the vehicle’s torsional rigidity, while extra protection is provided by rock rails and some additional skid plates.

The interior features special Ford Performance front seats, marine-grade vinyl upholstery, and a washable rubber floor covering. Suede, leather and carpets are optional for anybody who prefers a less utilitarian (but less practical) ambience.

Obtaining a Raptor might be difficult, though. In the United States, 2022 production is to be offered first to those customers with existing Bronco reservations. If any slots are left over, then orders can be placed from March onwards. The first deliveries are due this summer.
